MRI Technologist
DEPARTMENT: Radiology Business Park
REPORTS TO: Works under the direct supervision of the Radiologist, Chief MRI Technologist, Radiology Supervisor, and the Director of Imaging Services
SUPERVISION GIVEN: Oversee all aspects of the MRI Department in the absence of the Chief MRI Technologist.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the operation of the MRI system, performing exams and procedures, quality assurance, assuring federal, state, safety, and ACR Guidelines are met.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for operating and maintaining the MRI scanner and ancillary equipment. Assist with starting IV’s and administration of IV Contrast; set up and operate the power injection unit. Participate in the development and execution of imaging protocols. Perform all necessary QA testing on MRI scanner and associated equipment. Responsible for safety screening and clearance of MRI patients. Preparing patients for exams. Positioning and imaging patients. Obtaining quality MRI images and transferring necessary exam data to work stations. Scheduling appointments; answering incoming phone calls; consulting with physicians, nurse practitioners, and/or other medical assistants concerning MRI scans; greeting patients and checking the waiting area for arrivals; Educate patients about their exams and obtaining/confirming signature on IV contrast consent form; drawing up IV contrast media; clean, stock, maintain exam room, order supplies, and other duties as needed within the Radiology Department. Attends OSHA initially at orientation and annually thereafter.
KNOWLEDGE SKILL & ABILITY: The ability to work quickly and astutely in dealing with patients that have had reactions to the MRI contrast material. The ability to generate a feeling of caring, consideration, accommodation and empathy in dealing with the patients. The ability to deal effectively with peers, associates, and medical staff. Ability to work closely with physicians and Radiologists in dealing with MRI procedures. The ability to distinguish normal from abnormal MRI Scans in order to assist the Radiologist.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE: Graduation from a two year accredited school of radiography with an ARRT certification. IV certification required; Posses valid New York State license in Radiography, ARRT certification in MRI and at least two years experience working within the field of MRI. Maintain CE credits as required for valid licensure.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires sitting, standing, bending, and reaching. May require lifting up to 20 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment such as computer work/station, fax, calculators, and telephone. Requires normal hearing and vision.
Scheduled hours are Monday through Friday from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm
Compensation Range: $27 to $47.40 (minimum to maximum) based on experience
